Understanding The Scoring System
Tennis uses a distinct scoring method that often confuses newcomers but becomes second nature quickly. A standard game progresses from zero, which is called love, to 15, 30, and finally 40. To win a game, a player must score four points and be ahead by at least two points.
If both players reach 40, the score is known as deuce. At this stage, one player must win two consecutive points to secure the game. The first point won after deuce gives the player advantage, and winning the next point seals the game, otherwise it goes back to deuce.
Matches are usually divided into sets, where the first player to win six games takes the set. If the score in games reaches 6-6, a tie-break is played to decide the winner of that set. This structure ensures that every match remains competitive until the very last point.
